Parent Involvement Policy

Golden Oak Elementary School Parent Involvement Policy



 Golden Oak Elementary School Community believes that:

  • Parents will play an integral role in assisting in their child’s learning;

  • Parents will be encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education at school;

  • Parents will be full partners in their child’s education and will be included, as appropriate, in decision making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child;

  • Parents will carry out a variety of other activities listed herein.             



  1. Golden Oak Elementary School Parent Involvement Policy and Teacher Parent Student Compact will be reviewed and revised on an annual basis each spring with input from the following:

-          District Parent Involvement Policy (AR 6020)

-          School Site Council (SSC)

-          English Learner Advisory Council (ELAC)

-          Gifted and Talented Education Parents (GATE)


2. Golden Oak Elementary School will distribute and review, when appropriate, the Parental Involvement Policy by:


      Including it in Registration materials.

      Distribute with the Parent/Student Handbook.

      Reminders in Monthly newsletter.

      Notes sent home with student.

      Discussions at Open House and Back to School Nights


3.  Golden Oak Elementary School will update and distribute the Parental Involvement Policy


4. Golden Oak Elementary School will meet with parents at the beginning of each school year to review the Parent Involvement Policy and to inform them about their rights and opportunities to be involved in the education of their child.  Parents will be notified about the following opportunities to be involved well in advance of the event and will be informed about the school’s expectation for their participation in:

-          Back to School Night

-          Open House

-          Parent/Teacher Conferences

-          Chaperoning Field Trips

-          Newsletters

-          Parent Survey

-          PTA, SSC/ELAC, GATE 


5.   Golden Oak Elementary School will meet the needs of parents by: 

-          Communicating with parents in a language they understand;

-          Holding meetings at times most convenient for parents;

-          Providing child care when appropriate;

-          Utilizing the Behaviorist Aide and/or Community Aide to make home visits;

-          Providing materials to parents to help their children at home.


6. Golden Oak Elementary School will provide parents with a description and explanation of the taught and tested curriculum in the fall of each school year.  At Back to School Night, teachers will fully explain their methods for assessment and the use of the Standards Based Report Card.


7. Golden Oak Elementary School will provide parents with opportunities to serve on various committees in order to give input.  Information about these committees will be sent home and information will be included in the newsletter.  Committee elections are usually held in the fall of each new school year.


8. Golden Oak Elementary School is committed to accepting parent comments and implementing changes as needed to meet the needs of families.  A Suggestion Box is available in the office.  Parents are invited to make suggestions at any time.  Suggestion Box updates will appear monthly in the newsletter.


9. Golden Oak Elementary School will submit to the District any parent comments if the schoolwide plan under section (1114)(b)(2) is not satisfactory to parents of participating children. 




1.   Golden Oak Elementary School will build capacity for strong parental involvement by:

-          Frequent and timely communication from the principal;

-          Frequent and timely communication from the classroom teachers;

-          Personal contacts by and high visibility of the principal.


2. Golden Oak Elementary School will continue to use the Teacher/Student/Parent Compact as a tool to engage parents in the academic growth of their child(ren).


3. Golden Oak Elementary School will, each fall, explain to parents in various groupings and committees the following information:

-          District Academic Achievement and Content Standards;

-          State and Local Assessments;

-          Requirements of a School Wide Title I Program;

-          How to monitor their child’s progress;

-          How to work with school staff.


4. Golden Oak Elementary School  conduct various Parent Education Nights focusing on math, literacy, technology etc.  These will focus on how to support students academically.

-          Information advertising events will be sent home in a timely manner;

-          Information will be in the language of the parents;




This School Parental Involvement Policy has been developed jointly with, and agreed on with, parents of children participating in Title I, Part A programs.

This policy was adopted by the Golden Oak Elementary School on 04/20/09 and will be in effect for the period of one year to be reviewed annually.  The school will distribute this policy to all parents of participating Title I, Part A children at the beginning of the school year.
